Thanks to magnificient sports hall in Millennium Centre, designated according to the highest world standards, where many important sport events have been organized, Vršac has become one of the host towns of European Basketball Championship in 2005.

THE DAYS OF GRAPE PICKING

According to the historical references, the first vineyards in this region were mentioned back toward the middle of the I century. In 1949, 10,5 golden florins were paid for a bucket of Vršac wine at the court of the Hungarian King Vladislav II. In 1660 and 1664 the ottoman travel writer Evlya Celebi wrote in his writings about Vršac and its vineyards on the hill where red, tasty and sweet grapes grew.

As an interesting fact worth mentioned is the first wine exhibition in Vršac which took place in the coffee-house „At two keys“ in 1857, being at the same time the qualification for the exibition in Vienna in the same year Vršac wines were displayed for the first time and awarded the silver medal.

Since Vršac is famous for its wine, every year on the third weekend in september is a festival held named „Groždenbal“. These days you could visit various cultural, sport events and wine and grape exibitions. You can come with us by a famous „Wine Road“. It was founded in 1947 and since then until year 2003, it was a public company, when it was privatized and become a shareholders company.

The hotel “Srbija” has 85 comfortable rooms and 6 suites with total capacity of 170 beds. The rooms ranked as “Lux” category have air-conditioner, mini bar and satellite TV.
